Location by location, popular tourist spots in Bali.

Hey Bali Lovers, I get loads of private messages every day asking for advice and information about holidays tips to which I have an automated response pointing people to my app for most queries ( apologies as for years I have tried to provide personalised responses and just couldn’t keep up with the queries any longer). However a reoccurring theme regarding which area of Bali to stay in is repeated of late. So my little run down of popular locations includes: Kuta – head to Kuta if you are keen for market shopping, enjoy partying and socialising which includes loads of alcohol consumption, have your wits and common sense about you regarding personal safety and crime, enjoy shopping for all the International Brands at larger Shopping malls, love to socialise with the locals at the beach bars and are looking for larger hotels with all the mod cons or also ‘old school’ smaller Bali home stays for budget travellers. A plus side to Kuta is the close proximity to Waterbom Park and the Baby Turtle Sanctuary.

Legian – Legian is not too far from the airport and is great again for market style shopping, some boutiques and nice casual dining options and is somewhat close to Waterbom Park. It is a softer option for the party crowd with several sports bars dotted around and is great if you enjoy casual sunset drinks on the beach. Legian is popular for budget and luxe travellers with a range of hotels to suit all travellers and sits beautifully in between Seminyak and Kuta. Families enjoy Legian due to having many popular beach side eateries great when travelling with kids.

Seminyak- Seminyak is a definitely more upmarket and has considerably more boutiques and only small pockets of Market style shopping. The cafes, dining options and Bars are definitely more upmarket and fashionable and the style of accommodation is also more mid priced to luxury with a large blend of resorts and luxury villas available.

Umalas/ Batu Belig / Berawa – are beautiful areas which are quickly becoming built up, yet have smaller style hotels with a blend of Villas as well. There are no market stalls or large shopping malls, however there are some excellent cafes and restaurants and some boutiques and they are much quieter than perhaps Seminyak, Legian and Kuta. These areas are great if your keen to explore both Seminyak and Canggu.

Canggu – Canggu has become incredibly popular in recent years and attracts a lot of families and younger people. There are some great, cafes and smaller bars which have popped up and a small amount of boutiques. There aren’t any market stalls, shopping malls etc but there is awesome surf. Splash water park + Bounce and Strike Bowling Alley are big draw cards for families.

Balian and Medewi- are fantastic little get away locations with no shopping, no sports bars, no night clubs. Casual budget accommodation and dining options are abundant and great surf and beautiful scenery is why people come here.

Candidasa – A beautiful village vibe with small casual dining options. No shopping, nor night clubs and there are a few larger exclusive resorts but mainly smaller home stays and budget resorts.

Sanur – still has that old school, quiet Bali vibe with budget and luxury accommodation, calmer beaches than other locations, so it’s good for those with small children. Sanur has some market shopping, yet no boutiques or large scale shopping malls and has some lovely casual eateries and is a very popular location for retirees.

Nusa Dua- Has some of the islands most beautiful beaches and is mostly large scale upmarket resorts. There is one large shopping Centre although it has manly local crafts for sale and a food Hall type of thing. So not an area for much shopping or dining out other than what the resorts have on offer. Popular for Golf enthusiasts, families which like resorts which offer everything and those with higher budgets.

Balangan – is a stunning beachside location and is mainly for surfers or those wanting to relax with very casual, local style eating options and boutique or very casual budget accommodation. It’s a favourite of mine as I enjoy the coastal tranquility.

Bingin/ Padang Padang / Uluwatu – again another favourite of mine and is mainly for surfers / beach lovers and again families wanting to coastal vibes to relax. With stunning beaches (however loads of stairs need to be navigated to access them not for those who are elderly, unfit or may have special needs). There are a couple of boutiques and great coffee spots and cafes however no markets, nightclubs, large shopping malls etc.

Ubud – remains a craft and yoga hub for those seeking beautiful scenery and a retreat perhaps. Ubud has some of the best markets on the Island for shopping and a range of boutiques and Tegallalang rice fields are a must for craft shopping and viewing. There is a huge variety of dining options as well.

Lembongan- is incredibly laid back and mainly for surfers, divers and snorkelers with a great variety of accomodation, yet no shopping or nightlife at all.

Gili’s – are stunning and for those who love to dive and snorkel and also those that love to party hard.

I haven’t been to Bedugal, Lovina or Amed as I get super car sick so can’t really comment until one day when I travel around the entire island to find new discoveries and will report back. I hope that helps a little xxx

The Shady Shack, Canggu

I finally got to The Shady Shack Bali, in Canggu and I am in LOVE. This breezy, vegetarian, health food café overlooks the rice fields in Canggu and serves up some really delicious options. The obligatory Bali dog was relaxing in the doorway and I was hanging out for a smoothie bowl so that was my choice and this one was packed full of flavour and fruit. I had already had a couple of coffee’s that day enjoyed the cutest Matcha Latte with the bear face smiling back at me. A beautiful tropical little paradise to escape to with shady veranda or garden seating options to enjoy. I can highly recommend this place. It’s on the little street just behind Deus in Canggu.

Tinkers Toy Shop ~ Canggu, Bali.

Just on your left before you get to Splash Waterpark Bali, Bounce Bali and Strike Bowling Bali, you will find Tinkers Toy Shop at the Canggu Plaza. This cute little hut is jam packed full of costumes, books, kites, mobiles, snorkle and googles, pool floaties, puzzles and so much more. They also stock some stunning wrapping paper for gifts as well. Pop in if your out this way and check it out. We shopped up a storm ( as per ususal ) and got some mini lego stuf, bows and arrows for the boys and a weird little skelton coffin thing for all of Roccos treasures etc. My boys ( and I give it the thumbs up ) . Its about 15 minutes from the top end of Seminyak xxxx

24 Carat Gold Leaf Facial at Golddust Beauty Lounge, Canggu

I was invited to come to Golddust Beauty Lounge in Canggu to experience one of their signature 24 Carat Facials and being pressed for time and slightly sceptical (you might suggest ‘silly me’) I had been a little lazy in getting back to them. However I had a free afternoon and said hmmmm I want to see what all the fuss is about and LADIES, let me tell you YOU MUST TRY THIS !!!! I don’t believe the hype of many beauty products or treatments an follow a fairly boring kind of Cetaphyl cleanse and moisturise skin routine, so really what as a bit of 24 carat gold leaf going to achieve ???? Personally I  feel this blew my expectations out of the water. Only a small day spa on Jl Batu Bolong, in Canggu and increasingly booked out ( please book in advance and ask for mini Komang) . You enter Golddust to find a stunning array of affordable and soft luxury clothing. Your are then taken upstairs to a stunning quiet dimly lit seated area, where the mood and tone is set, immediately seducing you into a sense of calmness and a touch of luxury. You are then taken to your treatment room and asked to slip on a silky little gold number and lay down on the table. This is when the real experience begins. The most subtle and beautiful facial cleansing, exfoliating, and toning process, with delicate hands and skilled massage techniques and delicious aromatherapy. This all leading to the delicate placement of the gold leaf as pictured. Now chat to the team at Gold Dust some more and I was at this point giggling saying to myself hmmmm more like ( bull dust) yes, yes sincere apologies to the team at Golddust, but have to be honest. whilst this gold leaf is in place,  the tiny mini Komang gave me the best head, should, leg and arm massages and left me to meditate( rest)  for a short amount of time. The gold leaf was removed, and I was moisturised and feeling pretty awesome by now and she left me to get dressed. I gave my skin a once over in the rather large mirror and thought hmmmmmmm I feel and look amazing. My skin appeared fresh, clean, revitalised and I really must say glowing ! the wrinkles just a tiny bit less, the freckles and pigmentation a little less obvious and you know what most importantly it felt amazing. I know this treatment wont be in everyone’s price range and I truly say my skin was beautiful for days after this treatment and possibly longer, they do have facials starting from around 350 000 Rupiah and other very professional salon treatments, I highly recommend you check out Golddust Beauty Lounge in Canggu as I truly think your expectations like mine where will be met if not blown away ! Stay tuned for a little giveaway coming soon thanks to Little Miss Bali and Golddust Beauty Lounge. xxx

New Fave ~ Milk & Madu

Its too easy to get comfortable in Bali and return to your much loved spots. I almost had to drag a girlfriend out here to expand her repertoire  faves. Located on Jl Pantai Berawa ( about 10 minutes north of Seminyak, and close proximity to Bermain and Bungalow Living so perfect for a little shopping when your up this way). Milk & Madu is a breezy spacious café to enjoy some delicious food and Revolver coffee. Grab some magazines, log into the wifi and chill out on the spacious, comfy lounge areas or join the communal table and strike up a convo with a stranger. Word on the street is they are building a gorgeous play ground area in the near future and they do have a great kids menu and a box of toys and heaps of space if your taking little ones ( however no high chairs as yet ). The menu is so delicious I had to try both a sweet and savoury option hahaha ( yes we had been for a uber long and sweaty beach walk that morning so had earn’t it). I think its worth the drive and if you are in the hood, def pop in and check it out. A new fave to add to the list. Milk & Madu is open Tuesday – Sunday 7am – 5pm.
